Conventions of a horror movies- Qestion 1

Within my film opening i used a variety of shots that would typically be used in a real media product.

when the techer dissaperars behind the corner, i used canted angle to foreshadow that something bad has will happent to this character by conveying that all is not normal as he camer a tilted - this also created inigma s the audience is left wondering what happens to this character and where she went 

I used a long shot here to show how far how far away the kids are from safety. this distance also creates a disretted feeling that the children are alone and vulnerable 

the point of view shot that you are left with at the end of the filmopening is the point of view from one of the drowning children, where the main character swims towards them to try and save them. 

i slightly challenged the convention of an extreame close up here as i did not show a close up of the protagonis's face by just showed close up of the floating body parts of the childrens body parts so that the focus is on them and the infered accident 

the tracking shot that i used were both above and under water. the first tracking shot was of the main character walking through the windy changing room, this is where it all slows down as you are shown that the children have all drowned. the second tracking shot was of the underwater, of the kids. i swam through the legs of the children , weaving myself round the body.

Idecded to experiment with the style and tranistions of the title to see which one would look better.

After i experimented with the positioning of the title i decided that i dint like any of them that much but lied the simplest version of the black background and white writing to connote a clear contrast but in a subtle way.

Main Character:

• My main character will look like the 'girl next door' with blonde hair and blue eyes - this will give her a soft warm appearance 
• She will be wearing ports clothes to show that she is active and maybe unconventional in the sense hat she likes sports. 
• She will have a recognisable nike gym bag so that the audience knows she is trendy 
• She will have a lifeguarding top or swim teacher top so that its a key piece of mise-en-scene as it represents her ability to save people. 

• The kids will be dressed in bright vivid coloured swimming costumes to represent their youth and vibrancy 
• The bright clothes will contrast against the theme of death and accumulate a strong sense of horror as the thought of dying children is very haunting. 
• There will be bright coloured floats like noodles and rings to highten the energy and the colours in the frame

Email asking my main character if she would be able to participate in my filming of my film opening. 

I informed her on the time and date of my Filming experience as well as the equipment and props that she is required to bring 

I also reminded her of the safety features and mentioned that she would also be needed for her lifeguarding skills in case of an emergency

Creating A Soundtrack

Creating my own soundtrack

creating my own sound track on Garage band was fairly difficult. After collecting the tracks I possibly wanted to use, I imported them all onto the software.
the first stage was deciding if I wanted to use all the tracks I found and if they sounded as good as they did on their own, together.


the tracks I originally used were ' ' but them I decided that this still was not enough an I needed another element of music that differed from the ambient sounds which would create  melody. I went back on to YouTube and found another clip that used a piano to create a melody, this was a beautiful piece of music and would fit well into the idea of people floating. After importing this into garage band and adding it to the sound track I made so far, I realised that this worked very well collectively and completed the missing piece of it.

Problem:

• after finishing the track I listened to it again and realised that the piano was too over powering and took away the spooky aspect of it by drowning out the ambient sounds. I then decided that in order to fit my genre I would switch it round and edit the sound track so that the piano was very faint in the background and the ambient sounds to be heightened. this was a much better fit for my genre and didn't takeaway from the tension.
• within one of the ambient sound tracks, there was some ringing sounds which I did not think suited my film opening so I had a problem trying to remove them. I managed to fix this problem by cutting out these sections and linking it to a bit further on in the sound track in order to cover it.

• Likewise another soundtrack had speaking over the top of it so I had to also cut these bits out in order for it work.  i selected the parts that i needed and managed to fit them together and place them over the top of the original sound track 
•  once i finalised my sound track and placed it over the top of my film, i noticed that at some points it was too loud in comparison to the diologue, meaning it was difficul to hear and understand. i decided that I should ulter this on garacge band and look up how to play around with the individual volume by following a tutorial i found on youtube.
